This school year, 2016/17will be my 23rd year to work in the Blount County School system. After graduating with a Master's degree from Samford University in 1994, I began my teaching career at Blountsville Elementary as a Chapter One/Title One Aide.  The following year, I began teaching 4th grade at Hayden Elementary for two years until 4th grade was transferred to Hayden Middle School.  I taught at the Middle School for five years, before transferring to Cleveland Elementary, where I currently teach.  I taught 4th grade at CES for 4 years before transferring to 3rd grade, which I taught for eight years.  Last year, I transferred back to 4th grade as a language arts teacher.  My wonderful co-workers for Sheila Fallin, math, and Janie Kirkpatrick, science and history. I am so happy to be back with 4th grade students, as well as enjoying the departmentalized writing classes.

I believe God called me to this career and I am blessed by all of the children who walk through my door.  I honestly learn more from my students than they learn from me every single day of every single year.

I was born and raised outside of Cleveland. My wonderful parents are Hobby and Jean Smith.  I have two sisters, Karen Gamble, a retired teacher, and Kathy Pearman, a retired nurse.

I am married to Greg Posey of Blountsville, Alabama andtogether we have 4 children.  Katie Baker Boyd, a graduate of UNA,  married to Richard Boyd.  T hey reside in Golden, Mississippi.  Andrew Baker, who is moving to Nashville, Tennessee to work with NBC stations and an editor and photojournalist. graduated from UNA in Film and Digital Media in December 2012.   Paige Posey, engaged to Mason Grimes, works with her Dad at Power System Services. Ty Posey, a student at Wallace State, enjoys calf shows and tinkering with his jeep.

Greg and I live at Highland Lake.  We are in the process of a total remodel, are doing most of the work ourselves, so it is a slow remodel.  We are excited to have a completed boat dock at point of our property.  I also enjoy many genres of music.  I love dancing and travel.   Greg and I have been blessed to travel outside the country, UK, Spain, Netherlands, Cayman Islands, Antigua, Jamaica, and Roatan.  This summer I travel to Italy and fell in love with this region. Travel is a learning experince and I realize how blessed I am to be an American.  My dream after retirement is to teach in another country, such as Roatan.
